Note

Pelham, NH was then Dracut

The farm of William, is in the southwestern part of Pelham, on the Mammoth Road, which runs from Concord, NH, to Boston. The State line formerly ran north of this farm, making it a part of Massachusetts. The farm of Edward, his son, is northeast of it, and we find one of the boundaries described as follows: "By land of Capt. Thos. Spofford to a black oak standing on an old line called the Dracut line:"

In 1779, Edward, his son, a young builder, 27 years of age, makes his first purchase of land. In order to engage in business, he removes to the center of the town. Here he builds a house, hires men in his cabinet shop, and gradually acquires 100 acres, a large part of which is wooded. The swamp and upland furnish a variety of woods, and the trees are hauled out by his men to use in the business. When the city of Lowell is young and growing fast, he goes there for many years and builds houses. During his later years he gives more time to his farm, but his life shows him to have been more of a business man than farmer. He furnished means for his sons to establish themselves in business, and took a live interest in their affairs.

Are his parent Thomas & Rachel or Edward & Hannah Walker
